Another Bingo Hall in Ireland is Under threat

If it is not bad enough that bingo halls in the UK are closing down, it is sad to see that this is also a regular occurrence in Ireland. Now another bingo hall in Ireland is being eyed by developers with envious eyes, who want to demolish it and turn it into a site for apartments, shops and a medical centre. They have already filed a planning application to Dublin City Council and are awaiting the out come of this.

Closure of the Star Bingo hall will have a huge impact on the community.  Thousands of men and women enjoy a regular game of bingo at the hall, in fact 2 500 a week visit the bingo club. They visit the club from all areas and it is a very popular pastime for them. 75% of the people who attend the bingo club don’t drink, so don’t go to pubs and the bingo hall is the only entertainment outlet for them.

In the past, the Star Bingo Club has provided the Crumlin area with various forms of entertainment. It has been a cinema, a bowling alley and an ice skating rink, but the bingo hall has been on site for twenty five years, and has become vitally important to the community, particularly for the elderly. Mrs. Bingo, Bridget Lynch even went so far as to say that she would die from loneliness if the bingo club closed, she considers it to be her home. I sure hope the Dublin planning committee has a heart when they consider this application.
