Someone at the recently held Third Online Bingo Summit in London, referred to online bingo pundits as “Bingo Nerds”. This is the first time I have ever come across this and when reading about it I realized that I too am a bingo nerd. Ouch that hurt!
When people ask me what I write about and I say bingo and online bingo and launch into an account of how interesting the subject matter actually is, they sort of close off. It is almost as though there is a theatre curtain coming down over their eyes. It seems surprising that I find bingo so interesting and yet, the moment you mention bingo, because it isn’t nuclear physics, they are no longer interested.
I wonder if it is because people have a misconception about online bingo and bingo in general. This is a massive industry, a billion dollar industry (or million pound), and there are very many interesting facets to it. Share prices and mergers, new online bingo operators coming on line regularly and facts and figures that would stun even the most intelligent of nuclear physicist. However the moment I mention it, the lights switch off.
I wonder if it is because people believe that they have to be talking about something really clever so that they feel clever. If only they knew just how clever bingo is, everyone is playing it and Bingo Nerds can’t get enough of it, the reason being that there are huge amounts of money to be made.
