If Bingo playing games are fun-world of U.K., there are also reflections of the real world with quarrels, envy, double-cross and greed as we see. The entertainment of Bingo keeps up the spirits of the people and also brings the darker sides of human minds to the fore. Because, like democracy, Bingo games are – for the people, by the people and to the people.
A recent episode makes us think on these lines philosophically. Three sisters went to play Bingo games regularly in a Bingo club in U.K. The oral agreement between them was if any one is lucky enough to win a fabulous prize money, all the three should share it equally. This went on for quite sometime in winning small amounts and sharing. But once one of the sisters won £50,000, the trouble started. The lucky winner went home with the prize money and unfortunately changed her mind. She declined to honour the oral agreement valid between them so far and as greed would have it, negated the claims of the other two sisters.
Frustrated, the disappointed sisters moved a Court of Law to get their shares. The trial went on for over 6 months, but finally the verdict came in their favour. The Judge ruled that the winner should abide by the oral agreement as originally agreed upon and she should share the prize money with her sisters. But alas! The winner said she had already spent the money in the meantime. The sisters who had won the case are still lingering to see the money with their eyes and had to wait.
The lesson here is any partnership in Bingo can do well to have the agreement in writing and to get the splitting done immediately after the prize winning.
