Top Ten Bingo Tightens it’s Belt

Top Ten Bingo is a UK land based bingo operator, and unfortunately they are in an ongoing struggle to keep their clubs open. They employ 820 people and have fortunately managed to stay open without having to get rid of staff, but they are having a hard time in the bingo industry at present.
Sir Aubrey Brocklebank, the Chairman of the Top Ten Bingo group said of the factors leading to the rough time land based bingo is having in the UK; Historically the game of bingo has been robust during times of economic hardship, and the only time it was seriously affected was when the National Lottery was introduced. But now, not only does the industry have to contend with rising fuel and food prices, they also have additional VAT to pay, and the smoking ban to deal with.

The smoking ban affected the bingo industry in England and Wales far more than was expected and coupled with all these other outside factors, it has really led to a struggling industry. Bingo operators as are all other industry sectors are in the business to make a profit; one cannot be sentimental about this. Top Ten bingo seem however to be committed to the struggle and are focusing on building their profitability. They do envisage that this hardship is going to be experienced for a few years though, based on the current economic climate. So far Top Ten bingo have had to close the Morely, Wigston and Heckmondwike bingo clubs.
